How to Clean a Coffee Maker
With Coffee being one of the most popular beverages in the world, it is important to maintain a clean coffee maker when serving large amounts of coffee at once. Failure to do so can result in bacteria build up and bad tasting drinks. Here are three quick steps to cleaning your coffee maker.
Step One: Fill your Coffee Maker with Vinegar and Water
Start by filling your coffee maker with a mixture of half white distilled vinegar and half water. The vinegar works as a sanitizer and also dissolves any built-up bacteria.
Step Two: Brew and Soak
Next, place a filter in the basket and start brewing. About halfway through the brew process, turn off the coffee maker and allow the vinegar solution to soak for about 30-60 minutes. If you have a lot of buildup, you may need to soak for the full 60 minutes.
Step Three: Finish Brew Cycle and Flush
For this last step you will want to proceed by turning your coffee maker back on to finish the brew cycle. Once this is done, you can throw out the filter and pour out the remainder of the vinegar solution. Once you have poured out the solution, fill the reservoir with fresh water, place a clean filter in the basket and begin a brew cycle. This will flush away any remaining vinegar scents and tastes. You can repeat this step if needed.
