A cluttered, disorganized, and dirty fridge can be a big issue in foodservice operations where cleanliness is crucial. A dirty fridge not only encourages the growth of bacteria, but it also increases energy consumption and reduces fridge lifespan. Today we are going to take a look at how to effectively clean your commercial refrigerator.
Unplug Your refrigerator
The first thing you should do is unplug your refrigerator to reduce the likelihood of electrocution.
Remove all items from the shelves
The next step to cleaning your commercial refrigerator is to remove all products inside. It is important that you take the items out of the fridge, rather than moving them to other side. This allows you to clean all surfaces.
Wipe down the interior
Grab a bucket filled with hot soapy water, a sponge, and a microfiber cloth to remove all messes that have built up over time.
Disinfect using Sanitizer
It's important to sanitize surfaces in a fridge because bacteria and mold can grow there over time. You will want to use a food-safe sanitizer on all surfaces inside the refrigerator.
Vacuum the condenser and coils
Start by taking off the protective grill, which is either on top of your unit or at the bottom. To remove dirt and dust, brush the coils and the fan assembly. Use a vacuum to clean up all leftover debris and reinstall the grill.
Clean Above and Beneath the refrigerator
Mop the area beneath and around the refrigerator or freezer thoroughly.
In order to reach the walls and floor behind and beneath your units, if they have casters, be sure to pull them away from the wall.
Remember to dust the top of the appliance as well.
