Beverage Dispensers like all other food and drink containers need to be cleaned regularly. Failing to do so can result in your dispensed beverages to taste different. Also, there is the potential for bacteria build up which can be harmful to guests. While it is important to routinely clean your beverage dispenser, there is often a part that gets skipped during that process. That is the cleaning of your beverage dispensers spigot. Today we are going to look at the importance of maintaining a clean and sanitary beverage dispenser and most importantly why you should not wait to clean your dispenser until it is clogged with gunk and potentially harmful bacteria!
The spigot is a small but crucial part of any beverage dispenser. Without the spigot, you are not able to properly serve liquids. However, this component if not cleaned properly and regularly can quickly turn into a new home for many harmful bacteria. Beverage dispensers use spigots that contain two parts, the faucet body that has a level to control the flow of the liquids inside and a tube that allows the beverage to reach the faucet. Additionally, you can purchase extra parts to further prevent leaks.
If you have ever come across a beverage dispenser that suddenly stops properly dispensing drinks, this could very well be caused by an improperly maintained spigot. In order to prevent this from happening, the spigot, along with the dispenser itself should be routinely cleaned to remove any built-up residue. This also will ensure that the beverages you are serving your customers taste properly.
To properly clean your beverage dispenser, start by filling the dispenser to the brim with water. Next you will want to add a couple teaspoons of vinegar. Once you complete steps one and two, you can begin to turn the spigot, so it begins to dispense the vinegar water. You will want to repeat this process once more to ensure that any pulp, debris, or sugars have drained safely away. After you have properly cleaned your drink dispenser you can begin to dry it with a microfiber towel. Last but not least, let the unit air-dry with the spigot open overnight. This is to ensure that both the dispenser and spigot is completely dry and ready for the next use.
