Need to clean up dirt and debris on hard floors? Your best product choice among the many different types of floor cleaning equipment and supplies is a commercial broom. With the right type of broom, you can sweep up a room quickly and efficiently and have it neat and customer ready in no time. But there are several different types of commercial brooms, so how do you know which one is the best one for the task at hand?

Upright Broom – this type of broom is one of the more common household brooms, but also useful in commercial applications. An upright broom can have synthetic or natural fibers, which are usually feathered at the base so that they contact both large and vey small dust, dirt and debris. Upright brooms made with natural fibers typically use corn fibers and are often referred to as corn brooms. A corn broom is typically your more affordable option than a broom with synthetic or polypropylene bristles. The downside to the corn broom is that the bristles can break off over time where a broom with polypropylene bristles will be more durable and longer lasting. Either natural or synthetic corn broom, the bristles on an upright broom can be straight lined or angled which makes it easier to reach into corners for more thorough cleaning. Upright brooms can also be found in one piece or two piece, where the handle is separate from the broom head.

Push Broom – these brooms are often sold in two pieces, where the handle is separate from the push broom head. This allows for you to purchase different length handles as well as purchase different widths in broom heads. Handles are available in ranges from 3 feet to 6 feet. Broom heads for push brooms can be found in sizes from 12” to 36” in width. Push brooms have much shorter bristles than upright brooms. These bristles are also denser, where the broom head for a push broom is much like a brush. This type of broom head is good for pushing heavier pieces of debris, as well as heavier amounts of dirt and dust. A very common use of a push broom is manufacturing, warehouses, etc. They are great around a loading dock or in storage areas.

Warehouse / Industrial Broom – these brooms have synthetic bristles and two piece construction and can be used in dry or damp conditions. The bristles of warehouse brooms are longer than the push broom but will be shorter than most corn brooms. Additionally, you will find these with a straight edge or angled edge and some will be flagged to sweep up fine debris and dust. As the name suggests, these brooms are applicable for industrial environments and are good for picking up very fine particles.

Lobby Broom – This is a smaller version of an upright broom or a warehouse/industrial broom. Lobby brooms frequently come with a dust pan on a long handle so that the user does not have to bend down during use. These brooms are made for indoor use, to quickly sweep up trash, dirt or dust into the dust bin and whisk it away keeping the area neat and tidy for any patrons in the area. Lobby brooms are common in hospitality applications.
