The aluminum base sits on the countertop, with two stainless steel rods that the pusher plate slides up and down on. The base holds the blade assembly, which is a 10-cut wedge for this model. The thermoset blade assembly is one-piece and can easily pop in and out for cleaning or to change to a different style cut (available separately). This vegetable cutter is fantastic! The Vollrath Redco 15007 is exactly what we needed to keep things easy for our staff to learn as we have a lot of volunteers in our kitchen, so training is short and sweet.
