Are you in the market for a new Commercial Faucet? When you are shopping for commercial sinks and faucets there are several different styles of both to choose from and each with a unique design to fit specific applications. Here we cover the different types of commercial faucets you will find with the application they are most suited, the different features of each style of commercial faucet, and the type of sink that the faucet will best fit within a commercial foodservice operation.
Pre-Rinse Faucet
Application: used to wash heavily soiled dishes, pots, pans, tray, etc. prior to the actual washing process
Features: high velocity spray so that dishes are rinsed thoroughly, flexible hose so that they are easily moved around dirty dishes rather than moving the dish beneath a fixed faucet, hand operated to control water flow and tall neck for greater range of motion. Pre-rinse faucets can also have an extra nozzle, called an add-on faucet, that attach to the pre-rinse faucet.
Best Fit: a pre-rinse faucet is great for two and three compartment sinks, where you can spray dishes off on one side and then wash on the other.
Swing Faucet
Application: swing faucet means that the neck of the faucet can swing to the left or right and doesn’t need to stay stationary. These make a good general purpose faucet that can be used for a wide variety of dishwashing and janitorial applications within an institutional or commercial food service operation.
Features: swing faucets are available in various lengths as short as 6” and up to 18” to fit different sized sinks.
Best Fit: a swing faucet is a good fit for all compartment sinks.
Gooseneck Faucet
Application: used where you need extra clearance for large objects or to filling buckets, beverage servers, etc. A gooseneck faucet are ideal to use with one compartment sinks utility sinks, and hand sinks. Gooseneck faucets are often used in labs or medical applications too.
Features: the high arched neck which is usually between 4” to 8” in height. Gooseneck faucets can be stationary or swing style faucets and they may be deck mount or wall mount.
Best Fit: a gooseneck faucet is a good fit for one compartment, bar, hand, or utility sinks. Keep in mind that a gooseneck faucet should be used in deeper style sinks because there will excessive spill over in a shallower sink.
Workboard Faucet
Application: often found in bar sinks, workboard faucets have a metal surround that covers the base and handle connections for a clean, finished look
Features: a workboard faucet features a faucet escutcheon which is a metal surround that covers the base including the gap between the faucet and the sink. It is also called a cover plate or flange and it provides a neat finish to the installation.
Best Fit: a workboard faucet is appropriate for bar sinks or other sinks that are in areas where you prefer a neat, clean aesthetic because the metal escutcheon provides a finished look.
Pot-Filler Faucets
Application: the pot-filler faucet is used to fill pots or other cooking vessels quickly.
Features: a pot-filler will have more reach than a typical faucet. You will find most pot filler faucets have a long neck and some may double jointed faucets so that they can be placed over a large or heavy pot that may not easily fit in a sink. Pot-filler faucets may be straight, jointed, even hose faucet.
Best Fit: pot-fillers are best in the kitchen and create a dedicated area for filling pots, beverage servers, buckets, etc. with water.
Mop Sink Faucets
Application: a mop sink faucet is ideal whenever you have large mop buckets being filled frequently.
Features: a commercial mop sink faucet has additional stabilization from a brace that is attached to the wall above or floor below the faucet. This strengthens the faucet so that the mop bucket can be hung on the faucet during filling.
Best Fit: If you have large mop buckets being filled, a mop sink faucet is a good investment Being able to hang the mop bucket on the faucet allows the user to do other tasks while the bucket fills up. Without the additional strength this faucet has, hanging the mop bucket on a different faucet may cause damage to the faucet and surrounding area.
Double-Jointed Faucet
Application: a double jointed faucet is used in applications where you need clearance and reach. They are found in bar areas for rinsing out glasses or washing dishes, pot-filling stations or with a large three compartment sink.
Features: a commercial double jointed faucet has jointed neck so that it can extended to have a long reach and be folded out of the way when the length isn’t needed. They offer greater reach and flexibility that a swing faucet without a jointed neck.
Best Fit: Double-jointed faucets are a good fit for two and three compartment sinks, or in the case of a double-jointed pot-filler faucet, in a pot-filling station.
