When it comes to selecting the food prep equipment you need for your professional kitchen, the value and versatility of a good blender is well known among chefs, baristas, mixologists and many other foodservice professionals. This is the reasons you see them in so many different types of foodservice applications. Visit any busy coffee house, cafe, smoothie shop or cocktail lounge and the blender is sure to be busy. You’ll also see commercial blenders in the back of the house in most restaurants, from quick serve to fine dining, where they are utilized to make sauces, soups, salsas and more.
Whatever delicacies you are using your blender to create, we have some valuable tips that you should follow so that you’ll get peak performance from your commercial blender and always provides the optimal blend throughout the lifetime of the blender.
1. Make sure to add liquid ingredients first. With liquids at the bottom, a vortex will be created that pulls solid ingredients down toward the blades when it is turned on.
2. Keep the mix of ice or frozen food items and liquid in the blender container balanced so that you prevent cavitation; (that’s when excessive coldness causes air pockets to form around the blade and bring blending to a stop).
3. Cut round food objects such as apples in half before placing them in the container.
4. Make sure fresh food items are cut to fit in half the height of the container.
5. Never fill containers above the maximum line or run the blender if the blades become blocked or jammed during use.
6. Never remove blender jar from base until the motor has completely stopped. This will prevent wear and tear on the coupling system.
These tips will help you get the best performance from your blender, whether you’re using a culinary blender for soups and sauces or a high performance bar blender for specialty cocktails. We carry commercial blenders from top industry brands including Hamilton Beach, Waring, VitaMix and Kitchen Aid, and we recommend that you follow the tips listed above with of these brands for better efficiency and longer life.
