Importance of Cleaning an Ice Bin
From restaurants, bars and cafeterias, to nursing homes, hospitals, and healthcare facilities, ice is used in almost every food service setting. Because ice is such an important part of food service, professionals must understand how to properly clean an ice bin. Ice is classified as a food by the FDA, which means it must be handled and cared for in the same manner as other food products. It is important to take note that ice can become contaminated in many ways, such as incoming water, airborne contamination, unsafe handling, and storing ice in a dirty ice bin. Today we are going to take a look at how to properly clean your ice bin and what ice maker and ice bin combinations we recommend using for your facility.

Recommended Ice Machine / Bin Combos
A combo we recommend is the IYT-0420W ice maker and D420 ice bin. With this combination, you are able to store up to 383 lbs. and produce up to 470 lbs. of ice in 24 hours’ time, making it perfect for coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, and school cafeterias. If you require a larger machine and bin, the Manitowoc Indigo NXT Series comes in a variety of sizes. The Manitowoc Indigo NXT Series Ice Machines & D Series Bins take owning and using an ice maker to the next level. With the easyTouch screen on the cubers, owners can always see the state of their ice maker on the display screen. You are also able to program and set alarms on your personal device, such as programming the ice machine to shut off during certain hours, to save high energy prices. Manitowoc has designed the D-Style Storage bins with safety, sanitation, and ease of use in mind. The placement of the ice scoop handle is kept above the ice by a built-in scoop holder, for easy access. Each D-Series bin comes with a Sanitary Scoop that is also NSF approved. Another great feature is that the D-Series bins have a door design that is slanted at a 53° inclination allowing easy access to the ice, limiting the possibilities for contamination. Additionally, the door includes built-in side grips that make it simple to lift the door from any position and a self-latching door to keep employees safe when scooping ice.
